Joel Campbell to be loaned to PSV or Lille?

The Sun say that recent Arsenal signing Joel Campbell is set to be loaned to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredvisie after Arsenal have had difficulty in getting a work permit to allow him to play domestically this season. The ‘Exceptional Talent’ visa that Ryo Miyaichi only secured after a successful loan deal at Feyenoord (also in the Netherlands) is usually granted to full internationals like Campbell, who has scored 2 in 6 for his country, but Arsenal will hope a spell in the Dutch top division will help develop the Costan Rican striker as well as benefit him in his search for a work permit.

Lille were also touted as a club that Campbell might be loaned to but it seems like that move has now fallen through, following the unsportsman-like approach which it has been alleged Arsenal took when hijacking the transfer of South Korean striker Park Chu-Young. However, some think that the Chu-Young move went ahead as a result of Arsenal agreeing to loan Campbell to the French side. The forward addressed the situation and said it would be sorted by the end of the window:

“Both are good clubs and would be a beautiful experience. Before Wednesday, I will know where I will play.” Campbell announced.

However, PSV coach Frank Rutten has denied that he has any interest in Campbell.

“I do not know this boy. No, it can not be that technical director to act without my knowledge. Our relationship is such that I know which players he is working. Without my permission no one coming. It seems that Campbell is trying to distort his value through PSV.” said the coach.

It has been reported today that PSV Eindhoven have secured the services of the striker after the club lost a number of attacking players in the transfer window and are down to the bare bones up front with only four forward players and there has been much more speculation in Holland than there has been in France. Campbell, who is predominantly left-footed, rejected Sevilla and Fiorentina to join Arsenal after impressive showing at the Copa America and U-20 World Cup. Let’s hope he has a successful loan whoever he is with and comes back a better player, ready to bolster the squad in the future.
